Solved! I'd refurbished that system for my friend and installed SP3 from a flash drive before installing MSE so her problem remained a problem but at least it's one that's fixed now. You could look for the latest drivers for your laptop from http://www.acersupport.com/notebook/. From my experience the BSOD has a tendancy of blaming drivers and software for a completely unrelated problem. More common in hot weather or when the computer heats up.
