I think this is a big problem with Vista, Office, and Older OS's communicating together and I haven't found anything on the knowledge base or the web. Still takes forever to save documents, but only when working with documents from that one user. I'm not sure how to find the newer fix you mention in the comments. This slow-down doesn't happen with any other files from any other users no matter what version of Word they are using. I found this blog to post my results and WHHOOOO - everyone found the answer.
