I have asked in a couple other forums for help, but their suggestions didn't work. I was going to use System Restore to get back to a pre-infection state, but the utility would never advance with the 'NEXT' button after selecting a restore point. The two primary tools lacking would be the ability to run sfc /scannow...and the ability to do a repair install of XP (which leaves programs installed and data files intact).
There's many websites with lots of viruses nowadays so be careful what u visit. How can I get a copy of service pack 2 for windows xp? You cannot view these instructions after you restart the computer in Safe Mode. I've also tried logging into hotmail through outlook and OE, but I get a password authentication window that doesn't go away even though I'm putting in my correct password! I've toggled the Security settings up and down and all around, but that doesn't work. I even put it in a different machine to confirm and it did the same thing. Your computer will restart.
