A new version was offered. When a machine updates, some updates must be installed with the user logged off and some require a full restart so that updates can be applied prior to Windows loading resources. But re-installing failed to resolve.

Funny that those internet explorer updates don't show in the initial group of updates from tuesday . Do a search for the KB. If this fails there are otheroptions, but hopefully the very first one will be a winner. Get the dot net 1.1 only, install, then get the SP for 1.1 then the update to SP1.
