Internet is working fine, firewalls are turned off, it just doesn't seem to ever open the program to allow me to sign in. I have messed with the registry before but only when I knew exactly which registry keys I was looking for. There isn't an installer for just Messenger. I went through the windows live site, found the 'get latest version of live messenger' and ran that program.

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. I had the same problem and this worked perfectly! I wont ask how it worked, but it did. at least it did for me! Then reinstall Windows live messenger.

The program basically deletes all traces of Windows live messenger from your Registries. I reset my router and now it works fine.  I have been having this problem on and off for several weeks now.
