Network Storage

Each student is provided with a private folder on the Immaculata network (Mydrive on Dudley). Here you can store files that are accessible from any campus lab, library or classroom computer (but not from home).

If you need to access your files off-campus please back them up to a removable storage device or email them to your home or Immaculata email account. Various removable storage options can be used to store and transport files. It is important to choose a medium that you will have access to both at home and on campus.

A floppy disk holds the least amount of data, approximately 1.5 MB, and is very unstable. Any electrical impulse, magnetic field, or static charge can erase the data on the disk. When using floppy disks make sure you transport the disk in an appropriate container.

Zip Disks hold anywhere from 100 MB to 250 MB of data. While they hold a great amount of data they, like the floppy disks, are unstable.

Removable storage devices include Jump Drives, Thumb Drives, and Removable Disks just to name a few. Growing in popularity, these reliable storage devices connect to USB ports in a computer and act as a mini-drive. Storage capacity for these devices ranges from 96 MB to 512 MB.

The best storage medium to back up files stored on your hard drive is a CD. CD’s are stable, have a storage capacity of up to 800 MB, and are inexpensive.

To save data to your space “on Dudley”:

  1. Click File > Save As.
  2. Select My Computer in the Save In window.
  3. Under My Computer select your server space (username on ‘dudley\users’ (z)).
  4. Once in your server space you can save files and create folders.
  5. Remember all files stored on the “Z” drive can be accessed from any computer on campus.
