Navigation Features
|
- The picture to the left is an example of a
typical WebCT home page. This homepage is going to be your primary
source for navigating through your WebCT course.
- There are several different ways to navigate
through any WebCT course. This handout will show you some of those
ways.
- Please note that the back and forward
buttons on your browser will not always work in WebCT. You will
need to use the navigation features provided to get around in
the course.
|
Homepage
- The most frequently used navigation tool in
WebCT is the Homepage.
- On any WebCT homepage there will be a series
of buttons that are links to different areas within the course.
- Clicking on one of the icons, or the
text under the icon, will take you to that area of the course.
|
 |
Course Menu
|
- Another often used navigation feature is the
left hand navigation panel.
- On the left hand side of any WebCT course you
will see a menu bar that will always have the Homepage button
in it.
- Other items for this navigation tool can be
added or subtracted by your instructor.
- In this area clicking on the text, for
example the word “Homepage,” will take you to that
part of the course.

Course Map

- At the top of all of the pages within the course
is a navigation tool that allows you to do several things.
- The “MyWebCT” button will take you back
to your MyWebCT page.
- ”Resume Course” will take you back to
the last page you visited the last time you were in the course.
- “Course Map” will give you a general
view of what is in the course.
- The “Help” button is designed to
give you information about how to use the different features in WebCT.
Breadcrumbs

- The “breadcrumbs” navigation feature
can be found at the top of the page.
- This feature lets you see where you have been
and move backwards through that path.
- With this navigation feature, clicking on the
text will take you to that area of the course.
Action Menu

- The last navigation tool is the “Action Menu”
- The Action Menu may be turned on or off by your instructor
and it can be found either across the top of the page or on the left
side of the page. (This feature is only available in the course content
area.)
- The Action Menu is very similar to the buttons you
use in your browser. It allows you to move backward and forward through
the course one page at a time.
- Other items, such as Glossary, Search and Notes,
can be added to the Action Menu by your instructor.
