Management of Technological Change
Class Facilitation (15% of grade)
Everyone will be the facilitator of a class discussion at least once during this course. A series of questions to be addressed during each of the weekly sessions has been posted to the course Blackboard site. It is strongly recommended that all questions be reviewed and facilitators prepare their sessions well in advance.
The role of the facilitator is as follows:
- Start the weekly discussion by reviewing the assigned materials and where appropriate presenting outside sources that support the topic. Examples of how this can be accomplished will be discussed the first night of class.
- Engage the class in a collaborative discussion by posing questions and acting as cheerleader and encourager to entice your classmates into participating in the discussion.
- As people answer, chime in, see other ideas, and generally keep the conversation moving. This is like being the convener of a meeting at work, where you have an agenda, and you need to get input from everyone.
- At the end of your session, summarize and close the discussion. Once the job is done, you have earned your points.
Facilitation dates will be selected the first night of class.
Class Discussion (15% of grade)
Interaction is a very important part of learning, and it is especially integral to this course. Notice that 30% of your grade is determined by discussion participation and facilitation. I'll be looking for you to make significant contributions to the discussion every week. Participation that contributes to positive grade results in this area does the following:
- Ties personal experiences to the concepts we are studying, giving an orderly, brief version of the experience, with a point that is stated clearly.
- Avoids repeating in a different form, points made by others.
- Shows evidence of having completed, understood and applied the readings.
- Incorporates ideas shared by others and the instructor to create a “fuller picture” of the concept under review.
- Poses real-life questions or challenges that spring from the discussion material and attempts to shape an “informed” conclusion.
Based on the following rubric you will maintain a log that ranks your discussion participation. There should be an entry for each week of the course in the log as well as evidence (example of contributions) of said ranking noted.
The log will be collected at mid-term and then again at the end of the course. The logs will be utilized to assist in determining your class discussion grade.
